North Houston Tooth Extractions
In most situations, North Houston Dentistry wants to help you retain and repair your natural teeth. But sometimes — either due to damage or disease — teeth can’t be restored. When that’s the case, removing them can keep you out of pain and prevent the problem from affecting adjacent teeth.
Dr. Bastani may recommend dental extractions if you have teeth affected by:
- Trauma or other dental emergencies
- Severe pain
- Chronic abscesses
- Aggressive decay
- Fractured roots
- Periodontal disease
What to Expect
Having a tooth removed can range from a simple procedure to a more complex oral surgery. Depending on your situation, most of our Houston tooth extractions are completed using local anesthetic. This prevents you from feeling any discomfort, but no sedation is needed.
You’ll want to plan on sticking to a soft diet for the first few days after your dental extraction. If any sutures are needed, we’ll see you back within a week to have them removed.
Our office will walk you through the recovery process and be in touch with you following your procedure to ensure you’re healing properly. If you’re experiencing any redness, fever, or swelling, be sure to let us know right away.
Replacing Your Missing Tooth
When a tooth is extracted, it creates room inside of your mouth that isn’t supposed to be there. This situation nearly always leads to neighboring and opposing teeth drifting out of alignment. If you previously wore braces, this can feel quite disheartening. But the changes in your bite can also lead to tooth wear and TMJ disorder.
Replacing your tooth after a dental extraction is important. Doing so maintains the natural spacing inside of your smile as well as your full biting and chewing capabilities. Our North Houston dentist offers a choice of fixed bridges and dental implants to consider.
Wisdom Tooth Removal in Houston
Wisdom teeth are the last set of molars to develop. They tend to “come in” anywhere from a person’s mid-teen years to their late 20s. Unfortunately, their location makes them difficult to reach and often results in partial impaction. These circumstances can lead to a host of complications, such as:
- Pressure that results in tooth crowding throughout your mouth
- Pain and swelling
- Recurring tooth decay
- Periodontal disease
- Damage to adjacent teeth
Removing problematic wisdom teeth is beneficial to your smile as a whole. If Dr. Bastani sees your third molars erupting at an angle or with inadequate space, he may recommend having them removed proactively. Doing so can help you avoid pain or other side effects before they have the opportunity to start.
