Implant Supported / Snap on Dentures
Are you looking for a more comfortable, stable alternative than wearing traditional dentures?
While dentures have long been the go-to source for affordable and fast tooth replacement, the removable prosthesis pose a number of challenges for certain people. If you have a narrow jaw, it may be difficult for your conventional “plate” to stay in place without the help of denture adhesives or paste.
Fortunately, implant supported dentures offer a great alternative for our North Houston patients.
What are Implant Supported Dentures?
Depending on who you ask, there are a variety of different types of implant dentures available. Each one varies in design and how it fits into your mouth. Some are permanently attached, while others are “snap on” and removable in nature for taking them out at the end of the day.
The type of implant dentures you choose will depend on your oral anatomy, personal preferences, and budget. Here are some of the varieties you’ll want to discuss with our North Houston implant dentist:
Removable Overdentures — Stabilized overdentures look like a traditional denture, but they have small locators underneath the base. These attachments snap onto the dental implants in your mouth and are removable for easy care and maintenance. However, the implants prevent your denture from rocking out of place or feeling loose.
Hybrid “All on 4” Dentures — Implant dentures are generally a hybrid, full arch design that mimics the function of an extended dental bridge. As few as four implants are needed to support an entire upper or lower prosthesis. These dentures are not removable. Instead, they work like a bridge and are a permanent part of your smile.
Do You Qualify for Implants?
Denture implant treatments are similar to conventional implant therapy when it comes to the placement and recovery process. Dr. Bastani will need to ensure that you have enough healthy bone to support each implant. During your initial exam and consultation, we’ll discuss how your unique anatomy will impact the placement process.
Caring for Your Overdenture
Wearing an implant supported overdenture requires the same type of care and maintenance as a conventional denture. You’ll want to remove your “plate” each night and soak it in an effervescent denture cleansing solution. The next morning, use a denture brush to clean away the loosened debris and rinse it thoroughly before putting it back into your mouth.
Your gums need attention, too! Use a soft washcloth to clean inside your mouth before putting your denture in each day and at nighttime before going to bed.
Be sure to schedule regular checkups with our North Houston dentist to ensure your prosthesis fits properly and that your mouth is healthy.
An Affordable Missing Tooth Treatment
You don’t have to pay for an individual implant for every missing tooth. Instead, consider an implant supported denture that’s stabilized on top of dental implants. You’ll have access to the affordability of dentures with the predictability of our Houston implant treatment.
