Severe pain, swelling, a broken or knocked-out tooth, or a dental abscess are emergencies.
Rinse with warm salt water and use a cold compress on any swelling. Take over-the-counter pain relief as directed, and keep a knocked-out tooth in milk.
Call first so we can triage your symptoms and hold a same-day spot. Calling ahead usually means less time in the waiting room.

Go to the ER or call 911 if you have trouble breathing. Do the same for swelling that spreads toward your eye or neck, or a high fever.
