Why your bonding should come after your whitening
Whitening sets your final shade, and we match the bonding to it, so a small repair blends in with the rest of your smile.

Two treatments
Which one is your smile asking for?
Both brighten a smile. They do different jobs, and the order you do them in decides how natural the result looks.
Professional Teeth Whitening
Best for teeth that have gone dull or yellow over time.
Lightens your natural tooth color with a gel strength you cannot buy off a shelf.

Composite Bonding
Best for chips and small gaps on the front teeth.
Rebuilds a chipped or uneven edge in one visit, with resin shaded to match you.

Set the shade first and let us match the bonding to it. Do it that way and the repair blends instead of standing out.

Whitening, explained
What the strips cannot do
Store-bought strips and professional whitening share an ingredient. They do not share strength, fit, or a dentist checking your teeth first.
Whitening gel travels into the outer layer of a tooth and breaks up the stain held there. A dentist can use a stronger concentration safely because your gums are isolated and your teeth get screened before any gel goes on. A strip off a shelf does neither.
Gel strength
In the office, professional concentration from a dentist-dispensed system.
From a shelf, lower concentration sold for unsupervised use.
Screening first
In the office, an exam before any gel goes on.
From a shelf, no exam, so nothing is checked first.
Gum protection
In the office, your gums are isolated for the application.
From a shelf, one generic shape that cannot fit every mouth.
Evenness
In the office, coverage across the teeth you see when you smile.
From a shelf, gaps between teeth can leave patchy areas.
Keeping it
In the office, touch-ups from the dentist keep the shade where you set it.
From a shelf, it fades sooner, and restocking adds up.
Exact gel strengths are confirmed at your exam.

Bonding, explained
Why bonding keeps more of your natural tooth
Bonding adds material to the surface. A small chip or gap does not need a healthy tooth ground down first.
A veneer or a crown reshapes a tooth by taking some structure off first. Bonding works the other way. We add tooth-colored resin to the surface and shape it by hand, then harden it with a light. Small repairs on the front teeth usually finish in one visit, and because the tooth keeps its structure, you can change your mind later.
It handles chips and small gaps on the front teeth, including a corner that has worn down unevenly.
If you also want whitening, we settle that shade first and then match the resin to it.
Bonding on the front teeth is usually the kind we can finish in a single visit.

Shade, then shape
You pick a target shade, and we mark the teeth that need bonding.

4
Bonding visit
Resin gets matched to that shade, shaped by hand, and hardened the same day.

Costs, up front
What it costs, before you say yes
Whitening and most cosmetic bonding are elective, so dental insurance usually does not cover them. Bonding that repairs a chip or a broken edge can sometimes be covered, depending on your plan and how the tooth is coded. Bring your card and we will tell you where you stand before the appointment.

Questions people ask
The things people ask first
If your question is not on this list, ask it at the consultation. You will get a straight answer either way.

Some people feel brief sensitivity while the gel works, and it usually settles within a day or two. We check your enamel and gums first and can adjust the strength or split the treatment into shorter sittings.
No. Whitening only changes natural tooth structure, so a crown or a filling will not lighten with the rest. That is exactly why we settle your shade before bonding and match the resin to it afterward.
With normal care, composite bonding commonly holds up for several years before it needs a refresh. If one edge wears or chips, we can usually polish or repair that tooth without redoing everything.
Small cosmetic repairs usually do not need numbing, so you can drive yourself in and out. You may feel us working, and we will tell you what to expect before we begin.
We build the color and shape to match the teeth next to it, in daylight as well as under the chair light. If you want a natural finish rather than a bright one, say so and we will shade to that.
Sometimes. Bonding is usually done in a single visit. Whitening works best once your shade has settled, so we may schedule the two visits in sequence rather than stacking them into one day.
